Can you share a bit about your journey as an artist? How did you get into creating digital art, and what inspires your work?
I had thoughts I wanted to share with people through storytelling, and since expressing through drawings was more comfortable for me than writing, I chose the webtoon genre. I made my debut as a webtoon artist in 2016 after winning a contest.
How did you first discover Web3 and NFTs, and what excites you most about creating in this space?
I learned about Web3 and NFTs through Mr. Miggles. Until now, I had been working as a webtoon artist through contracts with agencies and platforms. While preparing my work for Web3, I felt freedom as an independent artist, and although I was previously ignorant about promoting my work, I'm now enjoying learning how to promote and market my creations.
What was your experience like collaborating with Miggles? How did this project challenge or inspire you creatively?
When it comes to storytelling, I often start from a blank slate. Creating something from nothing can be quite challenging. And once I contract with an agency or platform to produce a webtoon, I can't help but wonder, "Will this work generate a lot of revenue?" This sometimes leads me to set aside my own uniqueness.
However, collaborating with Miggles, I was given the image of Mr. Miggles the cat. From that point on, I was able to express everything freely, just as I wanted. As a result, my creativity flourished, and I found an abundance of ideas flowing forth.
What’s a piece of art you created for Miggles that you’re especially proud of, and what does it represent to you?
Emojis. I've wanted to create emojis for a long time, but I never started due to the excuse of being too busy. The Miggles project gave me the opportunity to finally pursue this, and it made me realize that I could work in a new form of art.
Where do you see Web3 art going in the future, and how do you hope to be part of that evolution?
Many Korean webtoon artists are suffering financial losses due to illegal websites. Despite struggling with excessive workloads, they are not receiving fair compensation for their work. I hope that many artists will become active in Web3, where they can express their creativity without restrictions and receive fair compensation for it. It would be wonderful if my work could help prove this is possible.
